Meet Mila
Breed: Rhodesian Ridgeback
Barking from: Hamilton
What's up dog?
Mila's mere existence has turned a problem we didn't want into a solution we didn't know we needed.
Like many workplaces, the last few years have been hectic to say the least. Between lockdowns, work-from-home adaptations and more sick leave than you could shake a stick at, GMD had also moved offices and onboarded a raft of new colleagues as we steadily grew and adapted both our size and services.
Upon finally reaching a bit of zen, company Director Gavin Donald found him and his whanau adopting the beautiful Mila who was in need of a new home. But there was just one problem - Mila was big. Very big. Jump-the-fence-and-escape-if-left-alone kind of big. So stuck between wanting to promote returning to the office, and not wanting to leave Mila alone, Gavin suggested she came along to the office.
Mila's graceful manners and quiet determination immediately brought a sense of emotional relief and social cohesion into the office. Like two sides of the same coin, we realised that the flipside to being such a flexible workplace can mean we forget the magical dynamic of also enjoying a shared, physical workplace too. Mila helped bring that side of work back to life, like a fresh coat of paint for the soul.
Furthermore, Mila helps to make sure all employees remember to take regular breaks by periodically demanding pats and walkies. She's also passionate about prompt mail, and helps to ensure we never miss the arrival of a courier.
Mila's positive impact in the workplace has been welcomed by all - except Mark. Mark has a beard. Mila hates beards. Reasons remain unknown, but mediation (putting dog treats in Mark's pockets) is ongoing, and showing promise.
